Jerry & Rachel are based in Durango, Durango, Mexico. They are working with HALUSA ministries, under Vicky Witt (Jerry's mom). The vision of HALUSA is to reach indigenous tribes who have never heard the gospel by befriending them and offering social work as an introduction to the Good News of Jesus Christ.
Vicky, Jerry's mother writes of their mission work: "Jerry, lives here in Durango. He married Rachel Hyman, daughter of Nathan and Patsy Hyman, pastors of Family Church in Houston, TX. They’ve been married since 2005. They have four children, Rebekah (17), Hope (15), Keyla (14) and David Yeager (11). Jerry and Rachel have been working with the Tepehuan tribe in the mountains of Durango. Violence between the cartels and the zetas have made it impossible to take up teams of people up to the villages to preach and provide medical and dental care. However, Jerry, who is a bush pilot, has maintained contact with the pastors in the mountains and has made trips with his family, myself and smaller groups of people during Easter weekends for the past 10 yrs. He preaches, performs wedding ceremonies and celebrates baptisms while there. In Dec of 2014, his plane suffered a catastrophic engine failure that forced him to do an emergency landing in the middle of the mountains. The whole event was quite miraculous as he and another young man named, Noel, were not only alive, the plane was all in one piece and the were both were able to walk through the front door of their homes that same evening. As a result of the emergency landing and the damage done to the engine, Jerry decided to sell the plane. Since then, he has worked as a pastor, establishing two new churches, one in Durango and one in a little town outside Durango, called La Colonia Hidalgo. He has continued the work in mountains as well as being a liaison between the churches in the Tepehuan communities and the church leaders in the city of Durango. Last year was an exciting year for Jerry and Rachel as the Lord provided for the purchase of a new airplane and it is being remodeled and upgraded in Tucson, AZ by Jerry’s dad. It is very exciting to see God’s work through my son, his wife and their family. It has also been a great comfort to have them living so close to me."
